Survive, a film by Roshane Saidnattar

SURVIVE (3 years 8 months 20 days) is a very personal film by a survivor of the “killing fields” of Cambodia in the 1970s. During almost four years of the Khmer rouge control, Roshane Saidnattar and her family were forced to leave the city to he labor camp in rural areas.

The opponents of the administration as well as the intellectuals and other citizens are mercilessly slaughtered. 30 years later, Roshane Saidnattar interviews Khieu Samphan, the President of Kampuchea democratic, who was Pol Pot theorician (and who has since been arrested and put on trial for genocide). With her mother and daughter, the filmmaker then makes an emotional journey back to the hamlet where she’d been a child slave of the revolution. Archival footage and a fiction, reenactments the director’s childhood, give depth to the nightmare.
